ZELIENOPLE - Lou Sapienza Sr., 76, is the Zelienople Rotary Club Man of the Year. He was honored at a dinner at the Kaufman House on Friday.
He received the Paul Harris Award, which is a $1,000 check given in his name to the Rotary Foundation by the Zelienople club.
He also received a plaque and a medallion to commemorate the event. He will serve as the grand marshal for the Independence Day parade in Zelienople on July 5.
Sapienza was fire chief for the Harmony Volunteer Fire Company for 19 years from 1958 until 1976. During that span, he doubled the fire truck fleet from three to six.
During the late 1960s, Sapienza, along with his brother, founded Harmony Ambulance.
His career included being a shop foreman for Robinson Industries, as well as owning Sapienza's Service Station. He also served as a part-time mail carrier for the Harmony Post Office.
He is the father of seven children and enjoys riding his walking horse with three of his sons.
Jennifer Morrow,daughter of Richard and Rita Morrow, was recently crowned the 2004 North Washington Rodeo Queen.A 2002 graduate of Moniteau High School and a sophomore at Butler County Community College, she is a volunteer at the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the women's auxiliary.Morrow will act as an ambassador of the rodeo throughout the year, attending area rodeos and community events.---The General Butler Vagabond Junior Drum and Bugle Corpswas awarded first place during a weekend parade in Brookville.The group will next perform in McDonald Township this weekend.---Butler High School students Jenna Guadagni, Mark McKivigan and Sam Roth recently participated in the "Cool to Care" program assisting residents at the Sunbury Fields Apartments.As a community service project, participants spent a Saturday cleaning the apartments of Sunbury Fields residents.---Wanda Patterson of Grove City was recently named a Quality Team Member at Trinity Living Center in Grove City.A Trinity employee since 1989, she was honored for loyalty, hard work and dedication to her job.She began her career as a nursing assistant and later became a licensed practical nurse.Patterson is the mother of two daughters, both of whom work at Trinity Living Center.---North/South:Polly Black and Alan Martin, Joanne Zambroski and Lorraine Worsley and Thomas Richards and John Kristufek.East/West:Jan Horwitz and Louis Joseph, Raymond Kramer and William Frank and George Aggen and Judy Ludwig.
