Bridge projects on schedule

Dougherty's Mills Bridge on Route 173 in Slippery Rock Township is scheduled to be replaced in 2011, according to the state Department of Transportation. The project is expected to cost between $5 million and $10 million.
DOT lists 4-year replacement plan

The state Department of Transportation's Transportation Improvement Plan is a constantly evolving four-year plan to improve roads and bridges in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Here is a list of state projects planned throughout Butler County, broken down by region, in the next four years. All projects beyond this year are subject to available funding.

Northwest region

The northwest region covers Brady, Cherry, Clay, Franklin, Marion, Mercer, Slippery Rock and Worth townships.

• Clay Township — PennDOT crews will repair the Muddy Creek Bridge this year.

• Clinton Township — PennDOT crews are scheduled to replace the Lardintown Run bridge this year.

• Harrisville — Replacement of the Harrisville Bridge along Route 8 is scheduled for 2014.

• Marion Township — Replacement of the two Murrinsville bridges, both along Route 58, is scheduled for 2013, as is the replacement of the Keister Road Bridge.

The Boyers Bridge along Route 308 is set for replacement in 2014.

• Mercer Township — Replacement of the Adams Corner Bridge along Route 8 is set for 2014, as is replacement of the McMurry Run Bridge along Route 58.

• Muddy Creek and Worth townships — Two bridges spanning Route 422 and Muddy Creek along West Park Road are scheduled for deck replacements this year. The project should cost about $2.4 million and be done by September.

Deck replacements for two other bridges carrying West Park Road over Interstate 79 were slated for deck replacement in 2009 using federal stimulus money, and should be finished this spring at a cost of $2.95 million.

• Slippery Rock Township — Replacement of the superstructure and abutments on the Christly's Mills Bridge along Route 256 will start in the spring. Work is scheduled for completion in October at a cost of $1.6 million.

A 2011 replacement of the Dougherty's Mills Bridge carrying Route 173 over Slippery Rock Creek is expected to cost between $5 million and $10 million.
