HARMONY — The Harmony Business Association's 16th annual Thursday evening concert series begins at 8 p.m. June 30 with a band and pyrotechnics providing a traditional launch into the Independence Day weekend.

Kardaz, a regional group that performs classics from the 1950s, '60s and '70s, will kick off the show in front of the Harmony Inn on Mercer Street. The evening will conclude with fireworks.

Concert-goers should take their own chairs.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Historic cooking, including using a Dutch oven and an open hearth fire, will be featured in the pioneer cooking class planned Saturday at the Old Stone House.The session will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.The demonstration will also include information on the role of food and cooking in America's past.A recipe book will be distributed.Other upcoming sessions in the series are: Lewis and Clark Cooking on July 23, Native American Cooking on Aug. 27, and Civil War Cooking on Sept. 10.Tuition is $25 per session.
