Vehicles hit house, tree

Accidents occur at same property

JEFFERSON TWP — It was a rough morning Thursday for Stanley Walchesky.

While at a Pittsburgh hospital where his wife was undergoing surgery, a car slammed into the front of a rental home he owns on North Pike Road in Jefferson Township.

A few minutes later, there was another accident. This time, a sport utility vehicle skidded off the road and into a tree in the yard of that same rental home.

“It was pretty far out,” Walchesky acknowledged. “But nobody was hurt and that’s a good thing.”

Icy road conditions were believed to be a factor in both accidents.

The first wreck happened about 9 a.m. when the driver of a car southbound on Route 356 lost control turning onto Hannahstown Road, authorities said.

The driver of second car swerved to avoid the first one and hit a third car. The collision sent the third car off the road and into the house at 706 North Pike Road.

The house sits about 20 feet off the road, also known as Route 356,

Walchesky, who lives across the road, said the tenant that lives there and her five children were all in the living room near the front of the house.

“The car didn’t hit very hard but it hit the front door, damaging the door frame and pushing in the wall,” Walchesky said.

No one was hurt. “But it sure scared them,” he said.

About 10 minutes later, while state police investigated the wreck, with Saxonburg volunteer firefighters assisting, the driver of an SUV traveled upon the scene that included cruisers and fire engines with their emergency lights on.

The driver lost control and crashed into a large spruce tree in the front yard of Walchesky’s rental home.

No one was hurt in either wreck, said Saxonburg Ambulance supervisor Paul Donaldson.

A state police report was not available this morning.
