Bowling fundraiser set for SaturdayLYNDORA — A bowling fundraiser for juvenile Type 1 diabetes will be Saturday at Sherwood Lanes.“Strike for a Cure” will run from 1 to 3 p.m. at the bowling house at 11 Lyn-Mar Plaza.Proceeds will go to the American Diabetes Association to help 5-year-old Anna James of Petrolia, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes a year ago. She is in kindergarten at Dassa McKinney Elementary School in the Moniteau School District.The fundraiser is a part of the senior project of Wyatt Ifft, who is a senior at Moniteau High School. Ifft said a major component of his project is to raise awareness of the disease.Ifft said all 24 bowling lanes are taken for the event, but there are auction items that can be bid on.Ifft also is involved with a team that participated in a fundraising walk that is held each year in Pittsburgh.He said his goal is to raise $10,000.
Spaghetti dinner to benefit firefighterSUGARCREEK TWP, Armstrong County — The Sugarcreek Township Volunteer Fire Department will have a spaghetti dinner Saturday to benefit a firefighter who was injured while fighting a fire.Lt. Alan Heck slipped on ice while fighting a fire on Dec. 20, suffering injuries to both of his knees. He has had surgery on the knees and will be in a wheelchair for six to eight months.Chuck Adams, president of the fire company, said Heck has decades of service to the fire department and ambulance service. He said Heck is a “behind-the-scenes” guy who is willing to help day-in and day-out.“He’s a man that dedicated 30-plus years to the community in general,” Adams said.The event will be from 2 to 6 p.m. at the department’s fire hall, 110 Rodgers Road. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger.In addition to the dinner, there will be an auction with more than 60 baskets as prizes.For questions or to give donations, contact Adams at 724-543-4745 or chuckadams1161@gmail.com.
