Annual Adams Benefit Car Cruise returns Saturday
Adams Township will hold its fourth annual benefit car cruise Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Adams Township Community Park at 698 Valencia Road.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Adams Township's new K-9 officer, Kiko. The money will fund training supplies and gear, medical aid, outfitting the patrol vehicle and other unforeseen expenses related to the K-9 officer.
Kiko and his handler, Officer Jason Giallorenzo, also will be at the event to meet residents.
The car cruise is open to all makes, years and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles. Participants can take more than one vehicle to the cruise. Dash plaques will be given to the first 200 vehicles at the event. Spectators who are not bringing a car to show at the cruise are welcome to attend.
“We don't take preregistration — it's just show up the day of,” said parks and recreation director Haley Geyer. “We'll be handing out bags with promotional items at each entrance of the park, and we're asking for a $5 donation for anyone who does bring a vehicle.”
Tickets for raffle prizes and 50/50 will be available, along with door prizes every half-hour starting at noon. In the case of inclement weather, a rain date has been scheduled for the following day.
Geyer said that last year's cruise saw upward of 400 vehicles participating, and that the township is expecting “that (number), if not more” this year. Last year's cruise raised around $6,000 for two Mars Area School District students in need of medical fundraising.
“We're hoping to make it bigger and better each year,” Geyer said. “It's open to anybody who wants to check it out.”
Raffle baskets have been donated by a number of local businesses and sponsors. Geyer said the winners of the raffles will be announced around 3:45 p.m.
