Springdale Church to commemorate 150th anniversary
Springdale Lutheran Church is celebrating its 150th anniversary from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at 1061 Mahood Road, West Sunbury.
The anniversary celebration features a buffet-style picnic, games and music.
The church was named “Springdale” because of the many springs in the area. It was organized in July 1876. The first building was dedicated in November 1876, with much of the labor done by members of the church.
The church has gone through numerous renovations and updates over the years. It joined with Rider Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church in 1899, sharing a minister because of the small congregations. It has also organized several community initiatives and fundraisers, including its friendly fellowship group and a gospel and country music night.
For fundraisers, the church’s members bake pies and sell hoagies, through which all profits are given to the church, according to the church.
