BUTLER TWP — The Butler School Board Monday night approved buying 90 new laptop computers for the high school for nearly $48,000.

Bill Raley, district IT director with Questeq, said the 90 laptop computers in current use at the high school have a weak battery life and run on Windows 98. Brian Slamecka, assistant superintendent, said the computers were bought in 2006.

The new computers are being bought from the Net Tech Corp. for $47,926, and will be running at the school within a month, Raley said.

The purchase comes within months of the district buying nearly $2 million in technology district ide, from smart boards to tablets and computers.

Also in regard to technology at the high school, the board discussed the possibility of enacting a more relaxed cell phone policy for sophomores, juniors and seniors. The students would be allowed to use telephones in the hallway, during lunch, and during free time.

The district could pilot the program for the second semester this school year.
