Morin

Douglas A. Morin, 80, of Butler, passed on to glory on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023.

Doug, known as “Papa” to many, was born April 30, 1943, on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation in Hays, Mont., to Michael and Marie Morin.

Doug retired from the U.S. Navy in 1976 and graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in public administration. He served in the “brown-water navy” in Vietnam and was a proud Seabee. Papa lived a life of service in various capacities including chief of police of Chinook, Mont., and public administrator in Allegheny County, Pa.

Papa had a passion for serving and was involved in a number of service organizations and charities including Knights of Columbus, Disabled American Veterans and St. Vincent De Paul, and he was a founding member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 427. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 117.

Doug was an avid golfer and a passionate follower of Jesus Christ. He was known to readily share his faith with everyone he came across to spread the message of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and let them know that God loved them deeply. Papa was generous with his time, talent and money and would help anyone in need.

Doug is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eileen (Leah) M. Morin; sons, Douglas W. (Denise) Morin, of Butler, Clifford E. (Denise) Morin, of Chiefland, Fla., Shawn D. (Tanya) Morin, of Butler, and James D. (Natalie) Morin, of Butler; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Papa was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Marie; brothers, Marvin, Ronald and Oscar; and grandchild, Caleb.

MORIN — Friends and family of Douglas A. Morin, who died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER OF CONNOQUENESSING TOWNSHIP, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at All Saints Parish, St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Butler, with Father John Baver officiating.

Doug will be inurned privately at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to veterans organizations in Doug’s honor.
