Ordinance revision considered
PROSPECT — Borough council is considering revising an ordinance requiring homes and businesses to have their sewer connections certified.
An ordinance passed in 2012 required any property being sold, transferred or mortgaged to have its sewer connection inspected for leaks or any other issues. The inspector is then required to provide documentation to the borough.
However, that ordinance did not address trailer parks and mobile homes.
A proposed revision would add them to the ordinance.
The objective of the first ordinance was to cut down on leaks that would allow stormwater to get into the system, Council President Bill Marciniak said.
“It’s a way of reducing infiltration into the sewer system. We pay for every drop that gets treated,” Marciniak said.
The same rules should apply to all sewer users, which is why the ordinance is being proposed, Marciniak said.
Council decided to send a proposed revision back to committee to make revisions Monday night, but Marciniak said he expects the ordinance to be passed in the next couple of months.
Council’s next meeting is 7 p.m. Sept. 8.
