SLIPPERY ROCK - It's one thing to win a basketball game.

It's another to claim victory by total domination.

That's the route the Grove City boys basketball team took in its 70-41 win over Corry in a District 10 Class AAA quarterfinal playoff Thursday at Slippery Rock University.

Whether it was an advantage in turnovers (21-6), rebounding (33-14), field goals (29-19) or made free throws (10-1), the Eagles had the upper hand against the Beavers.

Grove City will meet General McLane in a semifinal match Monday at SRU at a time to be determined.

"Getting this first (playoff) win really takes a lot of pressure off of us because we know now that we have at least two games left," said Grove City coach Don Fee, referring to the district's consolation game for the two semifinal losers, which will determine the third and final team to make the state playoffs.

The Eagles (18-6) received their usual balanced scoring, as Ryan King and Jordan Fee each scored 14 points while Tony Aloisio and Dustin Van Hook each chipped in with 10.

Grove City held a slim 12-11 lead late in the first quarter before closing the half with a 19-8 run, resulting in a 31-19 cushion at intermission.

The Eagles had only one turnover by halftime, compared to 12 for the Beavers (11-13).

"We made every mistake you can think of tonight," said Corry coach Harold Linden. "I wasn't happy at all with our execution."

The Eagles put a stranglehold on victory by posting a 13-0 run in the first 3½ minutes of the third period.

No Corry player reached double-digits in points as Tyler Amy led the team with eight.

"I thought our zone defense worked well tonight," said Fee.
