MEADVILLE — Grove City High School boys basketball coach Don Fee wiped the sweat from his brow and shook his head.

"They're giving me a heart attack," the coach said.

But the Eagles are still alive.

Grove City nearly squandered a 12-point fourth-quarter lead against Warren Local, but hung on for a 49-45 win in the District 10 Class semifinals at Meadville High School Monday night.

It was the second nail biter in a row for Grove City (23-3), which was pushed to overtime againstMeadville last week.

"(Warren) cut it to two. The momentum was all their way," Fee said. "But I tell you what, our kids — they didn't fold."

That's been the Eagles M.O. all season: just find a way.

Monday night, it was Ryan McNamara who found a way.

The junior forward came off the bench to grab a handful of key rebounds, hit all three shots he attempted and can two huge free throws in the waning seconds to keep the Dragons (18-7) at arm's length.

"Looking at him, you wouldn't think anything of him," said McNamara's senior teammate Jordan Fee. "But I tell you what, he's a very good player. Mac was huge."

McNamara's two free throws with 7.8 seconds remaining in the game gave Grove City a four-point lead, and, more importantly, made it a two possession game.

Warren got one only possession and missed both desperation shots it attempted.

The two free throws bucked a disturbing trend for the Eagles in the game. Grove City was just 16-of-31 from the line.

Once again, Grove City found a way.

"Or we find a way to let the other team back in it," Don Fee said.

Grove City let Warren back in the game twice, actually.

The Eagles built a 10-point lead at the half, then watched Warren score seven points in the first two minutes of the third quarter. It took the Dragons 16 minutes to score 13 points in the first two frames.

"We talked about matching their energy," coach Fee said. "They're a good ballclub and they're going to come out at you in the second half."

Grove City recovered and built its lead back to 12 points with a little more than four minutes remaining in the game before Warren charged back again.

Warren got as close as a point at 44-43 with 53 seconds remaining.

Lost in the dramatic win was Jordan Fee's milestone night.

The point guard surpassed 1,000 points in his career and scored a team-high 14 points.

The moment came and went with little fanfare — just like the Fees wanted.

"To be completely honest with you, I didn't even think about it before the game," Jordan Fee said. "I could really care less. I just really wanted this win."

Jordan Fee now has 1,008 points in his career.

Grove City will play General McLane in the District 10 championship game Friday at a site and time to be determined.

The win guarantees the Eagles a spot in the PIAA playoffs, which begin next week.

"It was a huge night for us," coach Fee said. "At the beginning of the season, our goal was to make the playoffs, our goal was to win the league championship, win the district championship and make the state playoffs. We've got all but one."
