David Valentine, a member of St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church in Mars, was one of several high school students from churches and schools in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh to receive the 2005 Eagle of the Cross award.The award recognizes youth demonstrating moral integrity, good works and Christian leadership.---The Butler Lions Club has announced the winners of itsDrug Awareness Poster Contestfor fourth grade students in the Butler area.First place went to

Michael Cokus---The American Cancer Society sponsored a Relay For Life event at Slippery Rock University, raising $15,000 in funds for cancer research.The two-day program took place April 22 and 23 at Old Thompson Field with activities that included a reception, dinner and games. Thirty-eight survivors who beat the disease were also honored at the event.Relay For Life is a celebration of cancer survivorship, with members of the community, businesses, schools and churches taking part in walking or running the track of an athletic field for a designated period of time.Forty-three teams participated in the event with a turnout of about 700 people.---Children at KinderCare Learning Center of Cranberry Township helped raise more than $300 for the March of Dimes during the center's annual Wonder Walk on April 14.The toddler class led this year's walk in which children paraded around the center for half an hour. Afterward, they celebrated with a party and a cake.The children also have been collecting pennies to raise money to help babies who are born prematurely.Overall, the learning center has raised $1,700 for charity in the last six months.
