Mars diver 2nd at states
It was an impressive end to a remarkable season for Eric Crowley.
The Mars junior finished second in the PIAA Class AA diving competition with a final score of 407.50 Thursday at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium.
"I wasn't sure what to expect at states, So I went in just hoping to finish in the top five," said Crowley, this year's WPIAL champion.
Dallas High School's Alaric Eby won the PIAA title with a performance of 431.95. He finished fourth in the state as a sophomore last year.
Crowley, who took up the sport last spring, heads into his senior season with a WPIAL crown to defend and a second-place finish at states under his belt.
"I was very excited about my performance today," he said. "Maybe next year, I can go out and win a state title."
Crowley's training partner, Pine-Richland's Jesse Marweg, took third with a score of 381.75.
Mars' Jeff Gavin placed 20th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5 minutes, .71 seconds.
Freeport freshman Andrea McQueen took sixth place in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.81) and 17th in the 100 freestyle (54.66).
Freeport's Brendan McGregor closed out his high school career by placing ninth in the 100 backstroke with a finish of 54.24.
