Walter P. "Moose" Campbell, 86, of Ridgeville passed away Sunday morning at his home.

Born at home in Bruin, Oct. 4, 1923, he was the sixth child out of 12 children born to the late Ralph M. Campbell and Edna (Mae) Folsteadt.

He married Fern Hutchison on Jan. 29, 1949. They were married 61 wonderful, loving years, having just celebrated that anniversary.

He graduated from Concord High School in 1941. He retired from Spang & Co.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, and received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a staff sergeant.

He was a lifetime member of the Paul W. Woods VFW Post 7840 of Hilliards. Mr. Campbell served many dedicated years as sexton of the Rosewood Cemetery in Ridgeville. He always took such pride in the way the cemetery looked. He continued doing this well into his 80s.

His family and friends always came first, and he looked forward to family gatherings. He continued to grow a garden and can for his family until last year.

He attended the Ridgeville Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Fern Hutchison Campbell; one son, Kent Campbell and his wife, Cathy, of Polk; and one daughter, Darlene and her husband, Gary, Twentier of Eau Claire. Also surviving are two granddaughters, who he adored, Christie Twentier and her husband, Nick Longenbach, of Camp Hill and Jennifer Karnes of Cranberry and Rusty Karnes of Oil City; and two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Karnes and Jack Walter Longenbach. Also surviving are two brothers, Ray Campbell of Boyers and Robert Campbell of Hooker; and one niece, Peggy (Campbell) Rider, who he thought of as a sister. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews and great neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, three sisters, a niece and a nephew.

<B>CAMPBELL</B> — Friends of Walter P. "Moose" Campbell, who died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home</B>,<B> </B>Main Street, Eau Claire. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rosewood Cemetery, Ridgeville.Members of the VFW and the American Legion will conduct military services.Information also is available at www.buzardfuneralhomes.com.
