Genevieve M. Hanratty
Genevieve Marian Hanratty, 88, formerly of West Penn Street and the Butler Townhouse Apartments, died Wednesday at Lowrie House.
Born April 20, 1916, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of Michael and Genevieve Schweikert Bronder.
She was a graduate of St. George High School in the Allentown section of Pittsburgh and a 1937 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Hanratty had been a staff nurse at St. Francis Hospital and also performed private duty nursing. During World War II, she was a nurse at the Marine Hospital in Pittsburgh. She also had worked with the U.S. Public Health Service. From 1962 until 1978, she was a registered nurse at Butler Memorial Hospital. After her retirement, she was a hospice volunteer for the Visiting Nurses Association.
She was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, the Women's Council of St. Peter, the Rosary Society and the Prayer Circle. She also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the Order of Alhambra, the Republican Women's Council, the Butler Bantam Baseball Auxiliary and served as a Cub Scout den mother.
Surviving are three sons, J. Vincent Hanratty, and his wife, Beverly, and Frank Hanratty, and his wife, Margie, both of Butler, and Jim Hanratty of Mount Lebanon; three daughters, Sue DiTullio and Bernadette Liebler, both of Butler, and Mary Ann Alchier of Fredonia, Mercer County; six grandsons, Michael Hanratty, and his wife, Belinda, Justin and Clark Liebler and Sean DiTullio, all of Butler, John Hanratty of State College and Benjamin Alchier of Fredonia; four granddaughters, Mrs. Steve (Christine) Allison and Erin and Kelly DiTullio, all of Butler, and Mrs. Joe (Melissa) Brunecz of Willoughby, Ohio; and six great-grandchildren, Nolan and Brody Allison, Sydney Hanratty, Brianna and Mason Mershimer, and P.J. Brunecz. She also is survived by a sister, Colette Neice of Baldwin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent A. Hanratty, to whom she was married to for 50 years; two sons-in-law, James Liebler and Leo DiTullio; a great-grandson, Ty Hanratty; four brothers; and two sisters.
HANRATTY - Friends of Genevieve Marian Hanratty, who died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St. The Rev. Jack Nanz will officiate.
