Family fishing course plannedMUDDY CREEK TWP —A family fishing program will be held at 1 p.m. July 24, at the Bear Run Boat Launch on the South Shore at Moraine State Park.This program is made possible by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Moraine State Park staff and volunteers.Families must be registered and should arrive at 1 p.m. Call 724-368-8811.The program will include lessons on how to rig a fishing rod, types of bait, knot tying, rules and regulations, casting practice, hands-on fishing, and more.Participants are not required to have their fishing license while participating in the program.

Edible plants focus of eventSLIPPERY ROCK TWP, Lawrence County — Were you ever curious about how native people lived off the land?Many Pennsylvania plants are edible, even tasty. Learn some basic plant identification, and take home some wild recipes at 2 p.m. July 23 near the Kildoo picnic area at McConnells Mill State Park.Park at the picnic area and walk down to meet park staff at the courtyard of the mill.

Blues Festival later this monthHAMPTON TWP — The Pittsburgh Blues Festival will take place July 22, 23 and 24 at Hartwood Acres.Proceeds will benefit Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.Featured performers will include the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Johnny Winter, Tommy Castro, Savoy Brown, Janiva Magness, John Németh, Lionel Young Band, Kelly Richey, Girls With Guitars Tour, and other Pittsburgh bands.There will be a KidZone with arts, crafts and food. The festival is free Friday with a bag of groceries donated to the food bank.Children 12 and under are admitted free and parking is free.
