Chabad of Cranberry offers kosher option at Farmers Market
Through the end of July, the Chabad Jewish Center of Cranberry will offer kosher “heavenly bread” at the Cranberry Township Farmers Market, according to Rabbi Yossi Feller.
"This is actually the first time that a specific kosher offering is being made at the farmers market,“ Feller said. ”There are many vendors and — us being Jewish, we have delicious challah that my wife Leah bakes.“
Feller said and he and his wife were inspired to bring the Challah Shoppe to the market by friends and Jewish communities who share challah at other markets in the region.
“We thought that it would be a good idea to bring it here and give people a taste of authentic challah,” Feller said, “which is traditionally eaten for the Jewish Sabbath and festivals.”
Historically, Feller said, the braided bread received its name from the traditional offering of a portion to the priesthood.
Yossi and Leah’s challah, at the Challah Shoppe booth, is offered in traditional, everything bagel, sweet crumble and vegan varieties for $10.
The Cranberry Township Farmers Market runs every Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. until Sept. 29 at the Municipal Center. The last chance to visit the Challah Shoppe will be July 28.
