In your Oct. 15, 2021 newspaper, I read two letters to the editor. The first had positive quotes by some of this nation’s well-known founders.

Those quotes were inspirational. Kudos to the author of that letter. As she quoted, “Freedom is not a gift bestowed upon us by other men, but a right that belongs to us by the laws of God and nature.”

The second letter demanded that the government strip everyone of their God-given rights. To be fair, the writer did exempt those with “a sincerely held religious belief or medical condition.” This talking point causes me a great deal of concern.

Who will decide the definition of a sincerely held religious belief? What would the criteria be? Will a test be administered? Would a time frame be established? Will those who convert from “non-religious” to “religious” be excluded from exemption because they recently converted?

What about those who have deep faith in Almighty God, but refuse to be religious? Who determines what a woman or a man holds as faith in their heart?

The fact that the polar opposites were printed at the same time can be viewed as fair and accurate journalism. The fact that this nation is so deeply divided on the issue of God-given freedom, is extremely disturbing.

Those who are currently in positions of authority are there because our Creator permits them to be there. They will answer to Him for the way they use that authority. I pray they govern wisely.
