West Penn Power runs storm restoration drill

West Penn Power completed its annual emergency preparation storm restoration drill at its Greensburg headquarters recently.

According to the power company, the remote and in-person drill focused on testing its storm restoration process in the event of severe weather outages.

“Storm drills provide our employees a controlled forum to practice and sharpen their skills in preparation for severe weather, such as thunderstorms packing gusty winds in the summer and snow and ice events in the winter,” said Scott Wyman, president of FirstEnergy’s Pennsylvania operations in a news release. “Regular emergency drills are another way we work to improve electric service for our customers in addition to tree trimming and the projects we do to harden our electric infrastructure and enhance its resiliency.”

West Penn stated that the drill’s hypothetical scenario focused on “Winter Storm April” that blanketed western and central Pennsylvania in snow in mid-December, with wind gusts exceeding 50 miles per hour.
