Reep

Derek E. Reep, 71, of Fairview, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, while under the care of UPMC Shadyside with his loved ones by his side.

Born on July 3, 1951, he was the son of the late Claire “Tay” Reep and the late Margaret (Edwards) Reep.

He graduated from Karns City High School in 1969 and attended both Westminster College and Butler County Community College. Derek spent his life running his own excavation business. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he could and was a lifetime member and director of the VDSSA (Valley Dam Sportsman Snowmobile Association), as well as a member of the West Sunbury Sons of the American Legion.

Derek was a renowned and respected local musician and loved playing music of all genres. He shared his talent with the local music scene for more than 50 years, where he touched the lives of many.

Surviving are his children, Brandon (Nikki) of Hooker, Pa., Ryan “Packy” (Nicole) of Harmony and Jason (Jackie) of Street, Md.; his brothers and sisters, Linda of Petrolia, Carl (Carla) of North Washington, Pa., Karen (Dave) of North Washington, Pa., and Paul (Diane) of West Sunbury; his girlfriend, Donna Taylor of Norwich, N.Y.; and his grandchildren, Hunter, Parker, Cameron, Madyson, Rayne, Hope, Cash, Cruze, McKenzie, Cole and Lucas.

Derek was preceded in death by his longtime furry companion, Zeb.

REEP — Honoring his wishes, the family of Derek E. Reep, who died Thursday, June 29, 2023, is planning a small private memorial service but plans to have a celebration of life for Derek in the near future for all friends and family.

In lieu of expressions of sympathy, the family has asked that anyone who may have videos, pictures or stories of Derek playing over the years to email them to picsofderekreep@yahoo.com.
