Owen W. Saylor

Owen W. Saylor, 89, of the St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars, formerly of Jennerstown, died Monday at the center.

Born Oct. 2, 1918, in Jenner Township, Somerset County, he was a son of Fred E. and Laura Speicher Saylor.

He was a 1937 graduate of the former Boswell High School and was a disabled World War II Army veteran.

Mr. Saylor retired from the Hiram G. Andrews Rehabilitation Center after 23 years.

He was a member of the Laurel Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jennerstown and a lifetime member of the Meyersdale Chapter 127 DAV and the Berlin Post 7295 VFW.

He enjoyed woodworking, painting, fishing and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his wives, the former Mary Louise Trexel and the former Dorothy Beam Prokop; an infant son, Dean Marlin Saylor; a son, James F. Saylor; a sister, Evelyn Spory; and a brother, Duane Saylor.

Surviving are his children, Dale Saylor, married to the former Mary Lu Clark of Spartanburg, S.C., Mark Saylor, married to the former Patricia Hoover, of St. George, Utah, Karen M. (Saylor), married to David Johnson, of Jenner Township, the Rev. David R. Saylor, married to the former Carol Warrick, of Evans City and Kathy (Saylor), married to Rick McCleary and Stephanie Saylor, both of Chambersburg; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several stepchildren.

Also surviving are sisters, Thelma Neatrour of St. Petersburg, Fla., Lucille Berkley of Jennerstown and Genevieve "Jean" Friedline of Indiana, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Robin Bowman, widow of James F. Saylor, of Jenners; a sister-in-law, Shirley Saylor of Newport News, Va.; and his former wife, Patricia Beahr Wilhelm of Chambersburg.

<B>SAYLOR</B> — Friends of Owen W. Saylor, who died Monday, March 24, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the <B>Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services</B>, 227 Allegheny St., Boswell. Viewing also will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurel Trinity Church, where services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jacquelyn Ahern officiating. Burial, with military rites by the Somerset County Honor Guard, will be at the Mt. Zion Cemetery.Donations may be made to Laurel Trinity Church, P.O. Box 185, Jennerstown, PA 15547.
