Collision injures 3, causes traffic tie-ups on Route 19
JACKSON TWP — Three people suffered injuries Friday after a two-vehicle accident on Route 19 near Kenny Ross Chevrolet.
According to township police Sgt. Tim Amrhein, at 1:13 p.m. an 82-year-old man driving south on Rt. 19 turned left into the path of a northbound van, causing the two vehicles to collide.
Amrhein said the van overturned and rescue workers from the Harmony, Zelienople, and Cranberry volunteer fire departments had to use mechanical extrication devices to remove the two people in the van — identified only as a 33-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man.
The two people from the van and the 82-year-old driver all were taken to hospitals for treatment.
The accident caused severe traffic delays on Route 19 because both northbound lanes were closed during the rescue efforts, Amrhein said. Traffic was diverted into the southbound lanes for about an hour.
The accident is still under investigation and the names and medical statuses of the three victims were not released by authorities.
