Tuesday — Basil Luchkiw Jr., 23, of Butler Township was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence stemming from a hit-and-run crash Sunday on Pleasantview Avenue.Police said Luchkiw was driving a truck that slammed into a car parked in front of Laurel Allison's home. Allison, who was wrapping Christmas gifts about 3:10 a.m., heard the crash and spotted an unknown man in the truck, which had rolled onto its side.She said she went to check on the man, who had climbed out of the truck, but he told her to leave him alone and then he ran away. Allison told police the man was intoxicated.Police searched for the man but did not find him. They later traced the truck's license plate to Luchkiw, who Allison on Tuesday identified as the man she had seen in the truck.Luchkiw on Tuesday called Butler Township police to report his truck had been stolen; however, Butler police later informed him that he has been charged with DUI, accidents involving damage to an unattended vehicle, unauthorized transfer of vehicle registration, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and reckless driving.
12:46 a.m. today — Paul Anthony Wagner, no age given, of Slippery Rock was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 422 near County Line Road in Clearfield Township.1:30 p.m. Tuesday — An unknown thief swiped a purse left unattended in a stroller in the Clearview Mall in Center Township. Angela Wells of Eau Claire told police she was shopping in the Payless Shoes store when her purse was taken. The estimated loss was $245.7:20 p.m. Monday — A car driven by Matthew Dec, no age given, of Butler slid across Kriess Road in Connoquenessing Township and struck a tree.6:42 p.m. Monday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Debbie Carson, 40, of Roxboro, N.C., skidded off ice-covered Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township and struck a bridge barrier.6:35 p.m. Monday — A car driven by Breana Burlbaugh, 19, of Hatboro, Montgomery County, struck a guardrail on Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township.10:10 p.m. Sunday — A car struck a utility pole along Henricks Road near Route 308 in Center Township. The unknown driver fled the crash site, leaving the car behind. Kimlan Nguyen, 43, of Ardmore Ala., owns the car.The crash knocked out electrical service to about 1,300 Allegheny Power customers for several hours.Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the barracks at 724-284-8100.Noon Thursday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Melissa Smith, 28, no address given, and a car driven by Kevin Blackann, 24, no address given, collided on Route 528 near Grindel Road in Franklin Township.
