Smith 50th anniversary
John and Sandra "Sandie" Smith of Butler celebrated 50 years of marriage recently with a dinner for family and friends at the Garden Gate Restaurant in Prospect.
The former Sandra Porkolab married Smith on Sept. 14, 1957, in Oakland, Md.
They have two children, Lori Vavro of Butler and John Smith Jr. of East Butler.
They also have four grandchildren.
Smith retired in 1997 after working as a millwright with Local Union 2235 for 41 years. He enjoys hunting, his dog and car restoration, recently completing work on his 1940 Ford Deluxe Opera Coupe. He belongs to the Happy Hunters Sportsmen's Club in Fenelton, the East Butler Fireman's Club, Loyal Order of the Moose and Argyle Lodge 540 F&AM in Chicora.Mrs. Smith works as an executive secretary at the Irene Stacy Community Mental Health Center, where she has been employed for 24 years. She has been a member of a card club for 47 years and belongs to East Butler Presbyterian Church.
