McDevitt

Robert A. McDevitt, 88, of Butler died Wednesday evening at St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Born in Summit Township on Feb. 21, 1922, he was a son of John T. and Susanna Boyle McDevitt.

Bob was retired as an electrician in the Processing Maintenance Department at the Butler Armco Steel Corp, where he worked for 38 years.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Herman, the Butler Council 866 of the Knights of Columbus, the Saxonburg VFW Post and the Saxonburg Fireman's Club.

Bob was an avid bingo player, enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking and was a sports fan.

A veteran of World War II, he had served in the U.S. Army ski patrol unit in Europe.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vivian Lemmon McDevitt, who he married Feb. 5, 1948; one son, Donald McDevitt of Chicago; one daughter, Christine Blank and her husband, Wayne, of Butler; four grandchildren, Thomas McDevitt, Emily McDevitt, Margaret Blank and Michelle Blank; and one sister, R. Joan Schrody and her husband, Joseph, of Huntersville, N.C.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

<B>MCDEVITT</B> — Friends of Robert A. McDevitt, who died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Herman. The Rev. Mark Carter will officiate.Interment will follow at Butler County Memorial Park cemetery.
