SR brings back New Year's Eve party

SLIPPERY ROCK — A New Year’s Eve celebration will return to the borough.

Slippery Rock Development will hold the Slippery Rock Community New Year’s Eve Party on Dec. 31. “It’s probably been 20 (years since the last one),” said event Chairman Bruce Russell.

The event, which is for people age 21 and older, will be from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Rock Catholic Parish Center, 342 Normal Ave.

Russell proposed the idea last year. He said in talking to people he found out they often did not have any plans on New Year’s Eve partially because there was no community event. “Maybe it’s worth bringing that back,” Russell said.

Appetizers, desserts and a light entree will be served.

The event is BYOB, with mixers and coffee available.

Music will be provided by the group Muddy Creek. When the band takes a break, a trivia game will be offered.

The event has received a positive response, and several groups and individuals donated to support it.

Russell said the number of people buying tickets already exceeded expectations.

“Our goal for the first year was to get 50. We’re at 52 now,” Russell said.

Tickets are limited by the buiding’s capacity, which is 150.

Tickets are $40 and are available at the First National Bank plaza office, Slippery Rock Giant Eagle, the SRU Federal Credit Union and North Country Brewing. The deadline to get tickets is Friday.
