Scheidemantle

Doris A. Scheidemantle, 93, of Zelienople, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023, while under the care of the Passavant Retirement Community, where she resided for several years.

Born May 7, 1929, in Altoona, she was the daughter of David W. and Alfild Margaret (Larson) Bigelow.

Doris taught private music students, primarily piano, but also some viola and violin. She played all three of those instruments plus the organ. She played organ and piano at Passavant church services. She continued to play even after her eyesight was not good enough to read music.

She loved crafts, such as card making, and gave card making classes at Passavant. Her granddaughter Kaela was inspired to take up the hobby. For a while, Doris collected dolls and crocheted and knitted.

Doris explored her Swedish heritage and learned some Swedish along the way. She traveled to Sweden to meet her relatives. She loved travel and cruises.

She enjoyed watching English mystery shows and “Jeopardy” on television.

Doris spent significant time on genealogy and had a large collection of materials that are being passed on to her granddaughter Maria’s husband, Chris.

Doris is remembered by her family for her positive attitude, for always putting others first, for her amazing iced tea and for baking a wide variety of Christmas cookies, many of them Swedish inspired. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her three children, Debbie Scheidemantle Caruso (married to Joseph Thomas Caruso) of New Albany, Ind., Wendy Kay Scheidemantle (married to Jakob Glashuettner) of Graz, Austria, and David Robert Scheidemantle (married to Cheryl Range Scheidemantle), of Pasadena, Calif.; five grandchildren, Maria Elisabeth Caruso Hall (married to Christopher “Chris” Hall), of Louisville, Ky., Michael Joseph Caruso (married to Laura Caruso) of New Albany, Ind., Sara Elaine Scheidemantle, of Fairfax, Calif., Kaela Marie Scheidemantle (engaged to Taylor Pierzina) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Luke Vincent Scheidemantle of New York, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, William Lincoln Hall (“Lincoln”), Elisabeth Rose Hall (“Ellie Rose”) and Lilly Gianna Caruso.

Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Eugene Scheidemantle, who died on Nov. 11, 2022.

SCHEIDEMANTLE — Friends and family of Doris A. Scheidemantle, who died March 24, 2023, are invited to a memorial service celebrating her life at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Seaman Chapel at Passavant Retirement Community, 105 Burgess Dr., Zelienople, with Pastor Susie Esseck officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.
