John Smith
John “Jack” Patrick Smith, 83, died April 11, 2023, at his home in Lancaster, Calif.
Born on Sept. 20, 1939, he was the son of the late William and Mary Monroe Smith and grew up in Herman.
A 1957 graduate of Butler Senior High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was discharged in 1962. He then moved to California and was employed by Rockwell/Boeing as a metrology engineer until his retirement in 1999. He worked on several of the space shuttles and the B-1 bomber. He received many awards for his work.
Jack is survived by a sister, Agnes Widenhofer, of Herman; and two brothers, Donald R. Smith of Blairsville and Thomas J. Smith of Herman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Yamnitsky, Trudy Moore, Rose McCall, Bill Smith, Helen Carter and Jim Smith.
SMITH — Local services will be held privately for John “Jack” Patrick Smith, who died April 11, 2023, at the convenience of the family.
