Butler woman involved in crash with horse and buggy in Lawrence County

A horse was killed in a Lawrence County crash involving buggy and a vehicle driven by a Butler woman Sunday, June 18, according to state police in New Castle.

The woman, identified as Marissa D. Claypoole, 22, and her three passengers were not injured in the incident.

Police said the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Wilson Mill Road in Wilmington Township, Lawrence County, when a horse and buggy turned onto the road from a driveway.

The buggy was driven by Jake R. Shetler, 32, of New Castle.

Police said Shetler entered the road without checking for oncoming traffic and was struck by Claypoole’s vehicle, a Toyota Camry.

The crash report indicated that Shetler could receive a citation for failing to signal, following an investigation.

There were no reported injuries, however, police said the horse was killed after impact with Claypoole’s vehicle.

The crash report showed Claypoole had two 5-year-old female passengers and one 7-year-old female passenger in her vehicle at the time of the crash.
