Tech building, office renovation advances

ADAMS TWP — The project to add a technology building and to renovate the office space adjacent to the Mars Primary Center will move forward.

John Hays, the construction manager from Thomas and Williamson, told the Mars School Board on Tuesday night that the estimated total cost for the project is $1.65 million.

The board voted to advertise for bids for the project, which will occur in the rear of the administrative offices.

Hays said construction would begin immediately after the bids are awarded in January, and will likely wrap up in mid-September 2016.

The addition will have a server room for the computer system, a room where computers can be repaired in a controlled environment, and storage space.

Hays said the first four rooms in the school hallway will be converted to offices for administrative positions. The rear access to the administrative offices will remain.

Included in the cost estimate are new windows in the existing administration offices.

The addition is necessary because the cramped and aging administrative offices have become insufficient.
