Evans City man accused of burglary, assault in Zelienople

A woman was awakened in the early hours of Sunday, June 11, to a man entering her Zelienople apartment through a window, punching holes in the walls and screaming.

Court documents showed the man also strangled the woman and took her phone before fleeing.

Borough police charged Justin R. Altman, 35, of Evans City, with felony burglary, misdemeanor simple assault and disorderly conduct, and summary harassment in connection with the incident.

He was placed in Butler County Prison on Monday, June 12, in lieu of $25,000 bond.

According to police, Altman entered an apartment in Hemlock Square early Sunday by removing a screen from an unlocked window. He also punched several holes in the walls and bedroom door, court documents showed.

The woman who resided in the apartment told police she and a friend were sleeping when Altman entered. Police said the woman asked Altman to leave several times, but he kept climbing up and down the stairs and screaming.

Altman then put his hands around the woman’s neck, strangled her, then punched her in the stomach, police said.

During the incident, the woman had tried filming Altman, but he took her phone and fled the scene, police said.

Altman’s preliminary hearing before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz is scheduled for Tuesday, June 20.
