Charles A. McWilliams, 83, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Boyers and Butler, died unexpectedly Tuesday at the Pine Medical Center in Grove City.

Born April 25, 1926, in Limestone, N.Y., he was the son of the late Oliver McWilliams and Cecile Manry McWilliams.

He was a World War II veteran of the Navy. He was a seaman first class on four different ships.

He was a member of the Boyers United Methodist Church. He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation 20 years ago. Following his retirement, he kept busy working as a security guard until his health began to fail in September.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury, the VFW in Cherry Valley and was a founding member of the Moniteau Ceremonial Squad. He also was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Grove City.

He is survived by his companion, Pauline Thorpe of Eau Claire; three daughters, Sharon Varner of Butler, Mrs. Frank (Susan) Dalcamo of Butler and Mrs. Troy (Patricia) Gallagher of Slippery Rock; a son, Larry McWilliams of Butler; his stepmother, Evelyn McWilliams of Marienville; two stepdaughters, the Mrs. Rev. Gary (Gail) Donaldson of Russell and Mrs. Otis (Doreen) Pennington of Eldorado; a stepson, Stephen Bollinger of Waterford; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl McWilliams of Greensburg; a half-brother, Charles Holt of Tionesta; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Eleanor, who died April 2, 1980, and Mayme, who died May 26, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Karen, and a brother, Keith.

<B>MCWILLIAMS</B> — Friends of Charles A. McWilliams, who died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>William F. Young Funeral Home</B>, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kathleen Soltis, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park.Military honors will be provided by the Moniteau Ceremonial Squad.
