Concord Township to resurface 7 roads

CONCORD TWP — Residents can expect resurfacing to start by mid-July on Beach, Boosel, Cartwright, Harper, Redbud, Troutman and Weiland roads, township supervisors said at their Tuesday, June 13, meeting.

Midland Asphalt Materials will “oil and chip” the roads. The contract states that the company will finish resurfacing the roads by Aug. 1, township supervisor Bill Boyer said.

While Midland is contracted to resurface the roads, the township is responsible for fixing them first.

“Our goal is to fill anything that needs to be filled, in any of those areas where we use stabilizer and things like that,” Boyer said.

The new base used to coat roads is more like a primer, he said, and dries within three to four hours.

“It won’t pick up like it used to,” said Boyer. “Once you’ve got a good hard surface, then you want to add good, hard product to that and keep sealing it.”

How long the sealant lasts on the newly patched roads depends greatly on the extent of how cold it gets this winter, Boyer said.

“We’ve been fortunate that what we did three years ago has stayed,” supervisor Dave Hazlett said.

Each year, about nine miles of road are patched in the township, he said. Midland will charge the township per mile.

The township recently completed roadwork on Green Lane.

Supervisors also subcontracted a new person to mow areas in the township.
