Moniteau to hold kindergarten sign-upCLAY TWP — Kindergarten registration for Moniteau School District will begin in early March.The orientation meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 24 at the Dassa McKinney Elementary School. Administrators will pass out information packets and forms.The student’s birth certificate and immunization record are required for registration. Children are eligible if they are 5 years old on or before Aug. 15, 2016.Registration is by appointment only, on March 2 and 3. Contact the school office at 724-637-2321.

SRU notes increase in winter enrollmentSLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University had an increase in enrollment in the recent completed winter session.The college said 1,346 undergraduate students enrolled along with 431 graduate students — a jump of more than 9 percent from 2014.Carrie Birckbichler, associate provost, said one of the biggest factors in the upswing is “time to degree.” She said more than 40 percent of SRU’s 2015 graduates took at least one winter session course.“Winter session helps them stay on track and graduate in a traditional four-year span,” Birckbichler said.Winter session has five-week classes between the end of the fall semester and the beginning of its spring term. Students can enroll in courses that are chosen for an accelerated, online format.During the 2015 winter session, SRU offered 138 courses.
