Renée Verostek
Renée J. Verostek, 46, of Fenelton, formerly of Eau Claire, went to be with the Lord while in the company of her loving parents early Friday morning, June 2, 2023, at Good Samaritan Inpatient Hospice in Cabot.
Renée fought a two-year battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer with courage, great strength and grace from the day of her diagnosis in mid-June of 2021.
Renée was born in Lancaster on July 24, 1976. She was the daughter of Kenneth A. and Marsha L. Rickard Verostek.
Renée was a 1996 graduate of Moniteau Jr./Sr. High School in West Sunbury.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Fenelton, where she was active in Marian Guild and helping at the church’s community dinners. In her earlier years, Renée had been an altar server for Father Don.
She was an avid Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers and 76ers fan. Renée loved motorcycles and enjoyed rides on Harley Davidsons. She participated in Special Olympics where she enjoyed bowling, volleyball, basketball and horseback riding. Renée excelled at horseback riding at the Special Olympics at Penn State, where she earned first place in English saddle, equitation, dressage and showmanship and second place in working trails.
She enjoyed music, movies — most especially those featuring Rocky Balboa, Jackie Chan and Sylvester Stallone — going out to eat and vacations at Edinboro Lake and Sea Isle City, N.J. She was an avid Star Wars and World War II airplane enthusiast. Renée most especially enjoyed the company of family and friends.
Renée is survived by her parents, Kenneth and Marsha Verostek of Fenelton; two brothers, Andrew “A.J.” Verostek (Jessica Risinger) of St. Petersburg and Matthew J. Verostek of Pittsburgh; her nieces and nephews, Sierra Leann Verostek, Andrew Verostek Jr. and Colleen Verostek; her aunts and uncles, James Jr. and Wendy Rickard of Ridgway, Andrew R. Verostek Jr. of Rock Hill, S.C., Carol Ann and John Deen of Oakland, N.J., and Sue Rickard of Ridgway; her very special friends, Linda Decker Houari and her family and Judy Decker; as well as a number of cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Shirley and John McCoy; her maternal grandfather, James A. Rickard Sr.; her paternal grandparents, Andrew Verostek Sr. and Jackie Verostek; an uncle, Larry Rickard; and an aunt, Mary Ann (Fuller) Verostek.
VEROSTEK — Friends of Renée J. Verostek, who died Friday, June 2, 2023, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the HILE FUNERAL HOME OF CHICORA, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday from St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 668 Clearfield Road, Fenelton, St. Francis of Assisi Parish, with the Rev. Ward Stakem, O.F.M. Cap., senior parochial vicar, officiating.
Inurnment will be in St. John Cemetery. Because of Renée’s love of motorcycles, those attending are encouraged to ride their bikes to the funeral.
