Pratt serious about Fantasy game

PHILADELPHIA - You'd think Todd Pratt would have a TV dilemma on Sunday.

His viewing choices are Game 4 of the National League Championship Series or yet another week in the grinding NFL regular season.

But is that really a quandary for Pratt, a 13-year veteran of major league baseball? Sure is, especially since one of the conflicting NFL tilts has serious fantasy implications for the Phillies' fiery backup catcher.

"I'm watching the football games," Pratt said. "I don't even watch the (baseball) playoffs, actually. I'll watch the World Series, but I don't watch the playoffs.

"Especially when you see Houston there. I love baseball, but I'm definitely watching football. Plus, I have to keep up with my guys."

Among those guys are Oakland quarterback Kerry Collins and Buffalo running back Willis McGahee. Oakland visits Buffalo at 4 p.m. Sunday, the same time as Game 4 of the NLCS.

Pratt has been playing fantasy football for the last nine years. He has two teams this season with both leagues run through CBS Sportsline.com.

Pratt's squad in the Phightin' Phils Phantasy Phootball League is a mediocre 2-3 and is being weighed down by some notorious underachievers.

He already had drafted McGahee and Jamal Lewis - as well as receivers Reggie Wayne and Andre Johnson - when he decided to roll the dice by taking Ricky Williams.

"That was my third running back picked," Pratt said of Williams, who is expected to see his first action of the season Sunday at Tampa Bay after a four-game suspension. "It might have been in the sixth or seventh round and I just said I'm going to grab him. I just took a chance. I didn't care about quarterback or defense. At that point, you just try to get the best player at the time.

"I don't know how much he's going to play, but I'm going to take a shot at him. Or, if someone needs somebody, I could trade him."

The Phils league is run by Gene Dias, the club's director of community relations, and includes (among others) pitcher Brett Myers and broadcasters Scott Graham and Tom McCarthy. Graham and McCarthy co-own the team that won the league last year.

Pratt also is in SportsLine's private MLB Players League along with notables such as Houston closer Brad Lidge, Milwaukee starter Ben Sheets and Cubs starter Greg Maddux. Pratt's 4-1 there.

Pratt, 38, used to run leagues before the Internet made life so easy on commissioners.

"We didn't even use CBS Sportsline then," Pratt reflected. "There was software programs and stuff like that. I had a little league with some of my friends. I'd send out newsletters. It was pretty cool."

Browns running back Reuben Droughns at Ravens:While playing him this week at Baltimore is a risk, Lee Suggs' broken thumb certainly enhances Droughns' value. Cleveland's next two - vs. Detroit, at Houston - are favorable.Seahawks wide receiver Joe Jurevicius vs. Texans:Injuries have depleted Seattle's wide receiving corps and Jurevicius has benefited the most. D.J. Hackett (yeah, we never heard of him either), is the other starter and worth considering since Seattle has some appealing matchups coming up (Houston, at Arizona, St. Louis, at San Fran).Bears running back Cedric Benson vs. Vikings:Thomas Jones' knee injury appears to have cleared the way for Benson to make his first career start. There's a few things to be wary of, however. One, Chicago has some injuries on the offensive line. Two, third-stringer Adrian Peterson is lurking. Three, we are talking about the Bears here.

Patriots defense at Broncos:The days of automatically sitting your players against New England are dwindling. As an example, we present Atlanta's Matt Schaub, who threw for 298 yards and three TDs against the Pats.Saints running back Antowain Smith vs. Atlanta:The Saints are just too inconsistent to consider Smith.Buccaneers running back Cadillac Williams vs. Dolphins:Pretend you're the Bucs. The rookie Williams is the future of your offense. He's been in and out of practice (and a protective boot) because of a foot injury. You're playing the improved Dolphins and their second-ranked run defense. You have a bye next week and come back at San Francisco. How much work would you give him?
