Doverspike

Janet E. Doverspike, 80, of Buffalo Township, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Janet was born in Kittanning on Feb. 4, 1943, and was a daughter of the late Margaret (Burke) and Merle Smith.

Janet was a 1961 graduate of Kittanning High School. She enrolled at Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va., where she earned her bachelor of science in nursing. She continued her education at Penn State University and received her school nurse practitioner degree.

Janet was hired by Knoch High School and worked as a certified school nurse practitioner for 28 years, retiring in 2006.

She was an active member of Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver.

Janet was a member of PSEA, PSEAR, NEA, Freeport College Club, Herbal Thymes Club and the Audubon Society.

She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

Janet is survived by her husband of 59 years, John E. “Jack” Doverspike; her sons, Brad and Vicki Doverspike of Kittanning and Aaron and Candace Doverspike of Black Forest, Colo.; her daughter, Kim and Scott Avolio of Unity Township; and four grandchildren, Tristan and Holli Doverspike and Alex and Ava Avolio.

Janet also is survived by her sister, Louise Rosenberger of Ocean View, N.J.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Beth Ann Becker; an infant son, John Doverspike Jr.; and her brother and sister-in-law, William and Elizabeth Smith.

DOVERSPIKE — Family and friends of Janet E. Doverspike, who died Wednesday, May 24, 2023, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, 524 High St., Freeport.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver, with the Rev. Seth McClymonds Jr. officiating.

Burial will be held at Lawn Haven Burial Estates Worthington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society: Relay for Life of Armstrong County–Bonnie’s Butterflies.
