4 main water pipes set to be replaced

Pennsylvania American Water on Tuesday started the replacement of four water main pipes in the Butler and Butler Township area.

Gary Lobaugh, water company spokesman, said the project will cost about $195,000.

Pipes being replaced are 75 to 85 years old, and are smaller than they should be for adequate supply and fire control water flow, said Larry Lambo, the company's manager of Northwest Pennsylvania filed operations.

The project will result in the installation of more than 2,100 feet of 8-inch iron pipe to replace aging 2-inch cast iron pipe along Sumner, Maple and Donaghy avenues in Butler and along Bellfield Drive in Butler Township.

Pennsylvania American Water expects to complete final paving restoration for all the projects by late summer.
