BUTLER TWP — The 2020 Butler varsity football schedule has been released and includes seven District 10 opponents.

The Golden Tornado are associate members of District 10 in football only for at least the next two seasons.

Butler will play five home games and five on the road. The only non-District 10 foes on the slate are a Week Zero home game against Kiski Area and games involving City League opponents —at Brashear and home to Westinghouse.

“This year's schedule really worked out well for us,” Butler athletic director Bill Mylan said. “We only have one really far road trip and that's at Harbor Creek.

“All of the Erie schools come here this year. Of course, we'll go up there three times next year when the schedule flip-flops.”

Butler will play these same 10 teams in 2021.

The Tornado will play three of their first four games at home. They will close the regular season with games at Franklin and Slippery Rock.

Butler head coach Eric Christy's brother, Eli, is the defensive coordinator at Slippery Rock.

“We're jokingly calling that game the Civil War,” Butler coach Christy said. “It will be interesting. I have a daughter who will be a senior at Slippery Rock next year.

“I know both schools are looking forward to that game. It's nice to keep a county team on the schedule.”

Mylan referred to the schedule as one that's “fair to our kids and where we're at.

“This is a competitive schedule with some intriguing games.”

Christy lauded Mylan for “working his butt off to put this schedule together. This will be a good barometer for us to see where the program's at right now.”

Butler's football players have not seen the schedule yet.

“Just seeing our schedule on paper will be a lift,” Christy said. “We've got a chance to make something happen, but we still have a lot of work to do.”
