Matt Leinart and Dwayne Jarrett, Southern California. Leinart passed for 332 yards and hooked up with Jarrett for three touchdowns in the top-ranked Trojans' 63-17 win over Hawaii.

Brian Calhoun, Wisconsin, rushed for a career-best 258 yards and a school record-tying five touchdowns on 43 carries in a 56-42 win over Bowling Green.

D.J. Shockley, Georgia, threw for a school record-tying five touchdowns and ran for another score as the No. 13 Bulldogs routed No. 18 Boise State 48-13.

Chris Leak, Florida, made a school-record 17 consecutive completions, passing for 320 yards and three touchdowns in the No. 10 Gators' 32-14 victory over Wyoming.

Omar Jacobs, Bowling Green, was 30-for-51 for 458 yards, with five TD passes and one interception in a 56-42 loss to Wisconsin.

Brett Basanez, Northwestern, threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in the first half and completed 27 of 37 passes for 353 yards as the Wildcats routed Ohio 38-14.

Brad Smith, Missouri, threw for four touchdowns and 317 yards and fell just five yards short of 100 yards rushing in a 44-17 victory over Arkansas State.

Jehuu Caulcrick, Michigan State, rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries as the Spartans beat Kent State 49-14.

Mike Hart, Michigan, ran for 117 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the No. 4 Wolverines to a 33-17 victory over Northern Illinois.

Matt Moore, Oregon State, passed for 367 yards and four touchdowns in his first start to beat Portland State 41-14.

Jad Dean, Clemson, set a school record making six field goals. Dean was 6-of-6 - including the game winner, a 42-yarder with 2 seconds remaining - to give Clemson a 25-24 victory over No. 17 Texas A&M.

TOP DOG

Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Matt Leinart led the top-ranked Trojans to their 23rd straight victory with a 63-17 win over Hawaii. Leinart threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns, passing Carson Palmer's Southern California career record of 72 touchdown passes by two.

UPSET

TCU came up with its biggest upset in 45 years, stifling Heisman hopeful Adrian Peterson and beating No. 7 Oklahoma 17-10. Tye Gunn threw for 226 yards and a touchdown as the Horned Frogs handed the stunned Sooners their first home loss since 2001 and the only loss in September under Bob Stoops.

WEIS VS. WANNESTEDT

Charlie Weis, new Notre Dame coach and former NFL offensive coordinator, defeated Dave Wannstedt, new Pittsburgh coach and former NFL defensive coordinator, 42-21 Saturday. Weis' Irish offense outgained the Panthers 502 to 323 yards.

SHOCK AND AWE

D.J. Shockley tied a school record with five touchdown passes, ran for another score and led the Bulldogs with 85 yards rushing in No. 13 Georgia's 48-13 win over No. 18 Boise State. Shockley, who backed up David Greene the last three years, matched Greene's mark for touchdown passes in a game.

GOOD THINGS COME IN THREE

Keon Gaither for the second straight week had three interceptions and returned one for a touchdown, in West Texas A&M's 37-6 win over East Central. Last week, Gaither pulled the same trick - three interceptions, with one TD return - in a 90-21 rout of New Mexico Highlands.

ON THE MARK

Chris Leak broke Steve Spurrier's school record for consecutive completions, leading No. 10 Florida to a 32-14 victory over Wyoming. Leak completed 26 of 34 passes - 17 consecutive between the first and third quarters - for 320 yards and three touchdowns. Spurrier hit 16 in a row at Florida State on Oct. 8, 1966, then matched his mark the following week at North Carolina State.

COMEBACKS

Air Force spoiled Tyrone Willingham's debut as coach at Washington and handed the Huskies their seventh straight loss dating to last season with a 20-17 comeback win. Falcons quarterback Shaun Carney directed a 14-play, 83-yard drive and scored on a 1-yard run with 34 seconds left. ... Illinois rallied from a 20-point deficit and Pierre Thomas' 2-yard touchdown run in overtime gave the Illini a 33-30 win over Rutgers in Ron Zook's first game as coach. The Knights had a 27-7 lead with 10:49 to go in the third quarter. ... Sam Hollenbach threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Drew Weatherly with 61 seconds left to help Maryland recover from an early deficit and beat Navy 23-20.

STREAKS

UCLA trounced San Diego State 44-21 to stay undefeated in the series. UCLA improved to 20-0-1 against the Aztecs, with the tie coming in 1924. The Bruins have outscored the Aztecs 672-227 in 21 games. ... Mount Union extended its regular-season win streak to 105 consecutive victories with a 33-7 win over Washington (Mo.). ... Kansas State extended its streak of opening-game victories to 16 with a 35-21 victory over Florida International. ... Michigan State, with a 49-14 win over Kent State, has won 12 straight against Mid-American Conference teams, while the Golden Flashes are 0-7 all-time against the Big Ten. ... Virginia Military Institute posted a 33-0 win over Davidson, ending a 12-game losing streak that extended to 2003. ... Derek Pearson kicked a 32-yard field goal with no time left to give Central Connecticut State a 24-22 victory over Colgate. The Blue Devils snapped Colgate's 17-game home winning streak, the longest in Division I-AA.

BACK IN FORM

No. 22 Boston College beat BYU 20-3 in Quinton Porter's first game in nearly two years. Porter was 27-for-35 with 232 yards and two touchdowns. He redshirted last year after starting 10 games in 2003 before missing the end of the season with a hand injury.

SCHOOL RECORD

Jamaal Charles set a Texas freshman debut record with 135 yards rushing and scored a touchdown for the No. 2 Longhorns in a 60-3 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette. ... Mark Borda threw for 344 yards and tied a school record with six touchdown passes to lead Lehigh to a 54-26 win over Monmouth, N.J.

Steve Silva ran for three touchdowns, caught a touchdown pass and threw a pair of scoring passes as Holy Cross opened the season with a 56-21 win over Sacred Heart.

Vince Young threw for three touchdowns, ran for another and No. 2 Texas opened the season with a 60-3 romp over Louisiana-Lafayette.
