Spring cleaning involves more than just cleaning out your desk at work or putting away those winter clothes.

This includes a clean Pennsylvania license plate and an upcoming event will help motorists bring their vehicle up to code, free of charge.

From 2 to 4 p.m. on June 2, state Rep. Stephenie Scialabba, R-12th, will host a Hard-to-Read License Plate event at the Cranberry Township Police Department, 2525 Rochester Road.

Scialabba will also host a similar event during the same time on June 2 at the Jackson Township Police Department, 140 Magill Road.

A license plate is illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet away, or if the plate shows signs of blistering, peeling or discoloration. A $100 fine could be issued for the offense.

During the events, officers will have the required state Department of Transportation MV-44 form to start the replacement process and there is no fee for this service.
