Rebecca Katherine Ekas, 88, of Karns City died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at the Whispering Acres Personal Care Home, Chicora, after a brief illness.

Born Aug. 23, 1918, in Philipston, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Edward and Mary Hiwiller Milliren.

She graduated from Rimersburg High School in 1937 and lived in the East Brady area until moving to Karns City in 1951.

Mrs. Ekas was a member of the Karns City United Methodist Church.

She was a homemaker and lived for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was well-known for her pie baking. In her younger days, she enjoyed snowmobiling and fishing in Canada with her friends. Later in life, she enjoyed making puzzles.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Dunn and her husband, Thomas, of Karns City; two sons, Harry Daniel "Dan" Ekas and his wife, Beverly, of Karns City and Thomas C. Ekas of Lyndora; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson. A brother and his wife, Edward and Alene Milliren of Rimersburg, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Her husband, Harry W. Ekas Jr., whom she married April 29, 1939, in Cumberland, Md., died Jan. 22, 1985. She also was preceded in death by five brothers, Howard, Charles, Richard, John "Jack" and David Milliren; and two sisters, Ruth "Boots" McKee and Nelda Milliren.

<B>EKAS</B> — Friends of Rebecca Katherine Ekas, who died Sunday, July 29, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B>, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Rowe, a retired Presbyterian pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.Memorial contributions be made to Whispering Acres Personal Care Home, 882 Thompson Road, Chicora PA 16025.
