County schools hang anti-bullying banners
An Adams Township mother is making sure all Butler County students are reminded of the dangers of bullying.
Carmelina Vargo said the county commissioners have proclaimed each May as Butler County Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month.
Because of that proclamation, Vargo applied for and received a $1,000 grant from the state Attorney General’s office to have banners printed for each school district in the county.
Vargo said the banners read “Choose bully-free, drug-free, alcohol-free and violence-free school districts.”
“We are trying to unite school districts together as a county to fight bullying, alcohol, drugs and violence,” said Vargo, who formed the group Parents4Pride a few years ago.
She said two banners will this week be hung in each school district in the county.
“We feel the banners in the schools will help prevent bullying and drug abuse,” Vargo said.
