YORK — Jenny Caruso, a junior at Knoch High School, won the Three-Baton Regional Competition for ages 15-over recently in York.

The event was presented by Twirling Unlimited and annually attracts twirlers from all over the United States and Canada.

Caruso, 17, has been working toward this title since beginning twirling 10 years ago. She has competed at National Baton Twirling Association national and state events.

She is the daughter of Peter and Vivian Caruso of Butler.

PITTSBURGH — Butler graduate Dan Rodgers has been named head women's golf coach at Carnegie Mellon University.He will also serve as the assistant men's golf coach.A 2000 Butler grad and 2004 Slippery Rock University graduate, Rodgers will lead the Tartans in their first official varsity golf season in the fall. The school had a women's golf team as a club sport this year.Rodgers has been the assistant golf professional at the Sewickley Heights Golf Club since 2009. He has also worked at the Wildwood Golf Club in Allison Park and Valley Brook Country Club in McMurray.

NEW YORK — Knicks President Phil Jackson was fined $25,000 by the NBA for a tampering violation involving veteran guard Derek Fisher.Jackson told reporters last week that Fisher is “on my list of guys that could be very good candidates” to coach the Knicks next season. Because Fisher is under contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, that was deemed to be in violation of league rules.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — After three years of coming up short in qualifying, Justin Leonard earned a return to the U.S. Open.The 1997 British Open champion was among the 16 players at the Columbus site who qualified for the U.S. Open June 12-15.
