Special Olympics Butler County will send 25 athletes and 13 coaches to the 2004 Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA) Fall Festival Friday through Sunday at Villanova University.
Local athletes will join a total of 1,067 athletes and 250 coaches representing 46 counties for the statewide competition.
Butler County athletes will compete in soccer and volleyball.
Butler graduate Bucky Holt is a freshman goaltender for unbeaten St. Vincent College in Division III college hockey.Holt has started five of the Polar Bearcats' nine games. The team is ranked NO. 1 in the Northeast Region of the American College Hockey Association and No. 11 nationally.
Cameron Peterson of Grove City won his age group at the recent Sport Seat Buckeye Open, a Plantations Junior Golf Tour event played at the Royal American Golf Links near Columbus, Ohio.Peterson carded a 4-over-par 75-73-148. He also received a medalist plaque for having the lowest scores across every age group overall.The Plantations Junior Golf Tour is a nationwide junior tour headquartered in South Carolina and operates golf events for players ages 8-19.
Knoch receiver Curtis Compton, linebacker Tim Hickey and defensive back Jordan Shoop have received first team All-Greater Allegheny Conference honors in football.Second team honors went to quarterback Shoop, running back David Bergamasco, lineman Tyler Ray and linebacker Bill Elliott.Compton received honorable mention at defensive back.
The Seneca Valley girls volleyball team will participate in pool play in the PIAA Class AAA playoffs Friday at Robert Morris University.The Raiders are scheduled to play Villa Maria at 11:20 a.m., Bishop Shanahan at 3:20 p.m. and Susquehannock at 7:20 p.m.The top two teams from this field of four will advance to the state semifinals Saturday.
