The Slippery Rock University men's and women's cross country teams captured the Juniata Invitational Saturday.

The Rock men scored a perfect 15 points to outdistance runner-up Bucknell (80). The women's team won with 42 points, easily outdistancing Bucknell's 78.

Matt Bluman won with a time of 25 minutes, 29.9 seconds on the 7.5K course, followed by teammates Pat Reagan, Chris Geddis (Seneca Valley), Jeff Weiss and George Walton.

The Rock men's team is ranked No. 8 in the latest USTF and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II poll while the women's team is ranked 20th.

In the women's race, Jaime Wright finished second with a time of 19:31.9 over a 5K course and Crystal Burnick was 10th, Rebecca Younger was 14th, Sarah Thompson 15th and Jennifer Pace 21st.

Men's Soccer

Nick Christy's unassisted goal in the 56th minute allowed SRU to blank Millersville, 1-0, on Saturday.

The win extended The Rock's (6-2-2, 5-1-2 in PSACplay) unbeaten streak to eight games.

Women's Soccer

Whitney Warmus scored off an assist from Ashley Paganie in the 39th minute in a 2-0 triumph over Millersville.

SRU (9-1, 5-0) received its other goal on an inadvertent tap-in by a Marauders' defender past goalie Karrine Riggins.

Field Hockey

Jennifer Venet accounted for The Rock's only goal in a 3-1 loss to East Stroudsburg. The Rock (0-9, 0-5) was outshot 27-3.

Football

Robert Heller scored on a 1-yard run with 13 seconds remaining to give Waynesburg a 27-23 victory over Grove City Saturday at Grove City's first-ever night home game.

The Wolverines trailed 14-0, but tied the game with a pair of second-quarter scores. Andrew DiDonato threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jay Yanak and Matt Weil (Fombell) scored on a 4-yard run.

Chris Haley, a freshman from Butler, kicked both extra points, then added a 26-yard field goal in the third quarter and a career-best 49-yarder with 9:11 remaining in the game to give Grove City a 23-20 lead.

Waynesburg outgained Grove City 373-226. DiDonato finished with 128 yards on 17-of-23 passing.
