Butler wins fifth straight with offensive onslaught

Butler overcame an early 3-1 deficit, scored at least one run in every inning in an 11-4 baseball defeat of host Taylor Allderdice on Thursday.

Mac Schnur went 4-for-5 at the plate, including a double and triple, and scored three runs to pace the Golden Tornado’s 18-hit attack.

Conner McTighe, Liam McElroy and James Desmond each tallied three hits in the win.

Colin Casteel earned the pitching win after allowing three runs (two earned) in five innings on the mound for Butler (9-5, 6-3), which won its fifth straight game.

Moniteau 8, Cranberry 1 — Connor Ealy and Keagan Book both had two hits, and Brock Matthews gave up four hits and fanned 10 as he went the distance in this road win. Book bashed a home run, had a triple, and pushed across four runs.

Boys Volleyball

Grant Hoover had 15 kills, and Peter Breski and Steve Mazur combined for 31 assists as Seneca Valley swept Pine-Richland by scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-17. Matt Cinker had nine digs in the win.

Mars 3, Armstrong 2 — The Planets won the final two sets by scores of 25-22 and 15-13 after going down 2-1 in this win. The counts of the other three sets were 19-25, 25-19, and 18-25.

Softball

Emerson Stevens had two singles, two doubles, three runs scored and three more batted in to lead A-C Valley/Union to an 18-8, six-inning victory over Karns City.

The Falcon Knights plated eight runs in the bottom of the sixth frame to end the game.

Rylan Strauser picked up the win in the circle while collecting two hits, including a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.

The Falcon Knights (8-4) also received a single, double, three runs and three RBI from Lexi Bauer.

KC’s Addison Burrows had three hits with a double and Lyrik Reed singled, scored and drove in a run.

Moon 9, Mars 4 — No other details were provided from this loss for the Planets.
