SRU softball splits twinbill
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s softball team moved closer to a PSAC West playoff spot Tuesday by splitting a doubleheader against Gannon.
The Rock (25-19, 16-10) lost the first game, 4-2, before winning the nightcap by an 8-7 count. SRU is in second place in the West Division with six games remaining in the regular season. The top five teams make the PSAC Tournament.
Emma Kennedy went 4-for-4 in the twinbill, scoring two runs and knocking in another. Kelsi Anderson was the losing pitcher in Game 1 — breaking her own school record for strikeouts in a season with 147 — and got the save in the second game.
Gannon is 16-23 overall, 15-12 in league play.
SRU hosts Pitt-Johnstown in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday.
