Man charged with possession of stolen gun, crack cocaine
Butler Township police have charged a Lyndora man with possessing crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a stolen gun, while attempting to flee police.
Michael L. Hutchinson, 27, initially was stopped by police Thursday, April 20, for having an active warrant out of Armstrong County.
Following the incident, he was charged with felonies drug sales, theft, possessing a firearm without a license and prohibited possession of a firearm and misdemeanors resisting arrest, use and possession of drug paraphernalia and summary criminal mischief.
Around 11:20 p.m. Thursday, April 20, police said they identified Hutchinson walking on Pillow Street near Fourth Avenue. He entered the parking lot of Pullman Square, and officers said they closed in on him as he reached its center.
Hutchinson was told there was a warrant out for his arrest, and he provided a false name to officers, police said.
Police said Hutchinson was asked to drop his backpack, and he moved away from officers when they tried to take him into custody. He was taken to the ground, and got back up.
Hutchinson eventually ran face-first into a police car while attempting to flee, police said. Officers deployed a stun gun, which hit him in the back.
Police said Hutchinson continued resisting but eventually was handcuffed.
A search of Hutchinson’s backpack yielded a sandwich bag of suspected crack cocaine, a smaller bag of suspected crack cocaine, a 9 mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition, a green digital scale with white residue, sandwich bags and a vape pen containing marijuana cartridges, police said.
Hutchinson was in possession of $288 at the time of arrest, police said.
The pistol found in his backpack was discovered to be stolen. Hutchinson’s criminal history of felony aggravated assault and drug sales prevents him from possessing a firearm.
Hutchinson was placed in Butler County prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. His preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell is scheduled May 4.
